Matthew 13.44-46

44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which someone found and hid; then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls; 46 on finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it.”
The kingdom of heaven is like a journalist in search of the perfect story; when she finds it, she refuses to sleep day or night and forsakes her friends and family in order to report the whole truth.
The kingdom of heaven is like a carpenter who finds a rare tree hidden in a forest; so he sells all of his possessions, his house and his shop and purchases the forest to claim that one tree.
The kingdom of heaven is like a scout who discovers an unknown prospect in football, playing at some unknown junior college; when the draft comes, he trades away all of his draft picks and his players for the number one pick in order to sign that one player.
The kingdom of heaven is like the final seat on a shuttle to the moon; when a businessman learns of the opening, he sells his billion-dollar business, empties his trust fund and his retirement accounts and gives away all of his possessions in order to buy the last ticket.
The kingdom of heaven is like a rare sunset over an empty beach; once a surfer finds it, she sells her surfboard, her gear and everything she owns and rents that strip of beach for another night to watch that perfect sunset again.
The kingdom of heaven is like the perfect illustration for a sermon; once a preacher hears it from another, he goes and trades the rights to every illustration and story he’s ever found in order to gain permission to use that one illustration.
The kingdom of heaven is like a nerd who finds a one-of-a-kind comic in bookstore; at once, he sells his entire collection, all of his collector comics and action figures and videogames in order to buy that one comic book.
The kingdom of heaven is like an oil tycoon who unearths a deep, subterranean reservoir; he doesn’t let the sun set before he has sold off his other wells and his entire company in order to gain money to buy the rights to the land for the one well.
The kingdom of heaven is like an unparalleled student; when the teacher recognizes the student’s brilliance, she neglects the rest of her students in order to focus on the education of that one student.
The kingdom of heaven is in those who find the Son of God; when they find Him, they give up all they have – the possessions that no longer seem so valuable, the goals that no longer seem worthy, the life that no longer seems significant - and leave everything behind in order to follow Him.
