At the introduction of this blog, I talked about how during the week we would be diving into studying the word of God, but on the weekend we were going to do some spiritual exercises that were more action oriented rather than study oriented. So here is the first one.
What is your purpose here on earth?
I know there are the big purposes, such as, "to Glorify God" or "to live in relationship with Jesus Christ", or even "to bring God and People back together."
And these are all true, these are all of our purposes for living and breathing and even existing. But what is your role in those big, grandiose purposes for life?
All of us are carrying out these purposes in some way, and we are all playing very different but very equal parts in bringing those purposes to fruition.
I think the whole Bible can be summed up as God bringing people back into a relationship with him. So what is your role in that big mission of bringing God and people back together? What part do you play?
The exercise today is to write your own personal mission statement. This is something that you can read every morning you get up before your devotion, or every week before church, or after church. You could even keep it in your Bible and during worship, pull it out and think about how you have been doing in accomplishing your own personal mission statement.
This is how you should set it up, "I exist to bring God and people back together by..." and you fill in the blank with your specific role in God's ultimate plan.
My personal mission statement is this, "I exist to bring God and people back together by following so hard after Christ that I influence others to do the same."
This is what drives your life, and you don't have to get it completely right the first time. It will always be under revision, but at least start today with something. And I challenge you, when you have written your personal mission statement, make it your facebook status.
Jesus came with a purpose, to bring God and people back together, and he has given you the task to carry out that purpose as well.
